The Magic of Creativity

You might think of creativity as this precious talent only a lucky few possess, but I disagree. I think to be human is to be creative. You’re creative in all of your thoughts, choices, and actions. You change and affect the world around you, and in that, you’re immensely creative. Humans are creative in their ability to create life. Humans are creative in thought, word, and deed. Perhaps the word creativity has been confused with artistry. You’re creative, and your human creative expression can be refined to become art if you decide to put your energy and focus into that.|

There are so many benefits to creativity. Here are the top five benefits:

Creativity connects you to the Creator:

It’s important for you to know that creativity connects you to the Divine. Your essence is creative. You must create to live, survive, or thrive. You have the power to be creative. Creativity is part of your humanness.

Creativity helps you refine your self-expression and authenticity:

It doesn’t matter what form it takes; when you’re creative, you’re expressing yourself and your authenticity. You could be an artist, a writer, or a singer; you could cook, make a spreadsheet, or build a Lego castle; everything you make reflects your creativity and self-expression.

Creativity is a superpower that allows you to solve problems and be resourceful & innovative:

When you engage your creativity, you engage this amazing problem-solving ability that enables you to be innovative, get things done, or manifest an idea. Creativity is human and practical magic. Engaging our creativity to solve complex problems or create what we want in life is at the heart of our magical abilities because we use our minds, hands, and frontal lobes to create solutions out of thin air.

Through creativity, you can integrate experiences and make meaningful connections:

Often, when you’re engaging your creativity, you’re engaging both the right and left hemispheres of your brain. This allows you to tap into your analytical abilities and your emotional abilities and integrate them. Doing a creative process can help you synthesize ideas, integrate experiences, and make meaningful connections between different parts of yourself and your brain. Furthermore, stimulating the right brain inspires holistic thinking and making connections.

Creativity relieves stress and promotes emotional well-being:

I know from anecdotal experience that creative tasks relieve stress and promote emotional well-being. Having taught art for many years, I’ve had many students tell me what a joy and relief it is to be creative and spend time in art class.

Creativity, as defined by Merriam-Webster's Dictionary, is simply "the ability to create." Etymologically rooted in the Latin verb "creare," meaning "to bring into being," creativity embodies the act of making, producing, and causing something to exist. This origin ties back to the Roman Goddess Ceres, associated with grain and harvest, whose name shares its linguistic root with "create."

Leverage your innate creativity to create the life of your dreams. You can effectively do this by following and repeating the four steps of the Moon Cycle process.

Four times in a Moon Cycle, you'll create a Moon Wheel. You’ll make one approximately every week for each quarter of the Moon Cycle: New Moon, First Quarter, Full Moon, and Last Quarter. The Moon Wheels are slightly different each quarter because they're designed to attune you to the creative energy of the specific part of the Moon Cycle.

Your Moon Wheels can be positive triggers for your goals, dreams, and desires. Consider what will positively trigger you to keep creating the life of your dreams. For example, I use a lot of color as a positive trigger. I use symbolic imagery as a positive trigger, such as stars, hearts, and simple symbolic drawings. I also use animal totems and animal symbolism, like power animals, to encourage me to keep going.

Ideas for how to get started with your Moon Wheels:

★ Start simple

★ Have fun

★  Play with ideas, colors, images, words, and symbols

★  Pick a media you enjoy, such as colored pencils, markers, or watercolors

★  Add doodles or shapes

★  Make the writing follow a pattern, like a mandala

★ Add collaged imagery from the internet or magazines
